Whatever you are studying, you will work with young people and with families.
Nursing. Education. Social work. Sociology. Psychology. Communications. Business. Technology. Every one of these puts you in front of youth, and in front of families from backgrounds different from your own. Learning to do that well is what raises the rest of your work.
Two things every major here has in common.
Your degree decides what you will be qualified to do. These two decide how well you will do it.
- You will work with young people
- You will work with diverse members of a community, the children and the families around them
Knowing how to excel at both elevates your service and your experience, in any field you enter.
Why it is worth your hours
This internship gives you practice with the people your profession will actually serve, and a finished piece of work that proves you can reach them. The internship and its mentoring are free.
Same thread, different work.
Nursing and Public Health
The patient is a child and the person making decisions is a family. Instructions only work if the household understood them.
Education
Teaching a student means working with whoever raises them, in whatever language that happens.
Social Work
Outcomes for a young person rest on the family system around them and on whether that family trusts you.
Psychology and Sociology
Research means real communities who decide whether to let you in and whether to tell you the truth.
Communications and Marketing
A message has to land with people whose lives look nothing like yours, or it has not landed at all.
Business and Technology
The user is often a parent with ten minutes and a second language. Design that ignores this gets abandoned.
Skills that follow you into any job.
These are practiced here, on real work, with feedback every week.
- Explaining something so it is understood the first time
- Listening before advising
- Working across language and culture, including with interpreters
- Recognizing what looks like disengagement and usually is not
- Asking before assuming when expectations differ
- Following through so people know what happened next
You design it, and it serves a community you choose.
Interns are trained, given resources and the chance to collaborate, then they go back into their own communities to solve a problem. Parents 2 Partners supports you virtually while you complete your hours.
